Another round of the BDCE Campus Cup and yet another couple of traditional rugby schools getting knocked out. Last week during Round 4 of the virtual schools’ rugby championship Grey College, Paarl Gimnasium, and Monument were knocked out of the competition.
Piet Potgieter of Mokopane defeated Grey College of Bloemfontein by the narrowest of margins. A total of 6 700 people voted in the match with 31 279 people that watched the match. The team from Mokopane will face Eldoraigne in the fourth round.
Ellisras is the giant-slayers as they toppled the other Goliath from Paarl, Paarl Gimnasium. Ellisras also knocked out Paarl Boys’ High during the first round of the competition. Ellisras won Paarl Gim by 50.4 to 49.6 percent in a match that saw just over 5 800 votes cast.
Monument of Krugersdorp also got knocked out as Nico Malan from Humansdorp are picking up steam. The team from the Eastern Cape will face Noord-Kaap of Kimberley in their next match-up.
There were quite a lot of matches that went to the wire with less than 0.1 percent between the sides. We urge all competing teams to play the game fair – as we have been made aware of fake accounts being made and used to vote. We will monitor the votes that come in and if we pick-up on any irregularities a school could be disqualified.
Heidelberg Volkskool also soldiered on as they edged past HTS Middelburg. It seems that their bomb squad is strong. Waterkloof also took a humdinger by only 18 votes against Wonderboom with only minutes left on Saturday.
The biggest victory during Round 4 was recorded by Helpmekaar as they defeated AHS Kroonstad by 59-41.
The first champion of the BDCE Campus Cup will receive a lucrative prize in R15 000 in cash and also a USN hamper worth R8 000. The losing finalists will also receive a cash prize of R10 000, while there is also something in it for the smaller schools that take part in the competition.
Our title sponsor, BDCE (Business Development Centre of Excellence), provides SETA Accredited Learnerships, Accredited Training, Skills Development, Non-Accredited Training, and Short Courses for businesses. The competition is a knock-out tournament like the FA Cup (in English soccer) or the former Lion Cup (SA Rugby competition). The winner of each match/tie is determined by who gets the most votes in the match-up.
Show support to your school or community by voting them to the next round. The competition will take nine-week in total and your school will need your support for eight of the week if they are going to be crowned the first virtual champions of South Africa.
Last week we welcomed StrapFIT on board as a sponsor with them adding R6 000 worth of strapping to the prizes. This week we also welcome Canterbury SA to the sponsors. Canterbury decided that they will provide the champions of the BDCE Campus Cup with a set of jerseys.
DigiCampus is also one of our sponsors that made this unique competition possible. They provide online video lessons of the CAPS curriculum from Grade R to 12 for all subjects. If you have a child in school during these uncertain times – they provide an excellent free service in helping schoolchildren with an extra resource to better their grades.
