Buthelezi: Junior Bok captaincy hasn’t sunk in yet

NewsGPepsiButhelezi School of Rugby | News - School of RugbyIt is exactly a week since Phendulani Buthelezi was named as the Junior Springboks’ captain for 2019, and the Cell C Sharks looseforward says it is such a surreal feeling, it still hasn’t sunk in yet.

Buthelezi, who turns 20 years old on Thursday, 30 May – the day after the Junior Springboks depart for World Rugby U20 Championship in Argentina – initially missed out on selection for the SA U20 squad that travelled to the south of France last year, before called up as injury replacement. But this year, he will have honour of leading the side.

“I always knew that I had to step up into a senior role this year, but I really cannot say I expected to be named the captain,” said Buthelezi.

Kearsney College outmuscle Michaelhouse by 23-20

Kearsney started the match well and exerted pressure right from the start. Their first try came from a scrum against the feed, with fullback Derick Marshall eventually scoring in the right-hand corner after a strong gallop of about 20m. Scrumhalf Cade Carmichael converted for a 7-0 lead after three minutes of play.

Grey College scored 38 unanswered points on Saturday to put our third placed team, Paarl Boys' High, to the sword by 43-24.

SWD School of Rugby | News - School of RugbySoos te wagte sal wees het die Hoërskool Outeniqua en Oakdale Landbou vanjaar weer die grootste verteenwoordiging in die Suidwestelike Distrikte se span vir die Cravenweek. Die Cravenweek vir hoërskole (o.18) vind vanjaar op Grey-kollege in Bloemfontein se velde plaas. 

Outeniqua het met 11 die meeste spelers wat in die Cravenweek-groep ingesluit is. Oakdale Landbou het agt spelers in die span. Slegs vier spelers Ashaldo Kiewiet (Albertina), Rowan Jumat (George High), Zano-Lee Jonkers...

Vossies en Marais Viljoen beklink seges in die doodsnikke in Virsekerbeker

NewsGBenVorster School of Rugby | News - School of RugbyBen Vorster en Marais Viljoen het daarin geslaag om seges in die doodsnikke van hul onderskeie kragmetings in die Virsekebeker se Plaat-afdeling teen Eldoraigne en Zwartkop te behaal. 

Albei wendrieë is deur die twee spanne se binnesenters, Franco Broodryk (Ben Vorster) en Bernard Ronan (Marais Viljoen) behaal. 

Die wendrie was Broodryk se tweede in sy span se oorwinning van 30-25 op Tzaneen. Dit was van die begin af duidelik dat dit n vinnige en fisieke wedstryd gaan wees.
