Western Province early favourites retain their u17 Sevens-title

SAu17Sevens School of Rugby | News - School of RugbyIt would take an exceptional effort from the other teams at the Saru u17 Interprovincial Sevens tournament to dethrone the defending champions. Western Province. The annual tournament is hosted at the Fanie du Toit Stadium in Potchefstroom.

Western Province will face Free State in the first quarterfinal of the tournament tomorrow morning. Before Free State’s last match of the opening day against the Golden Lions it seemed that they were the main contenders to dethrone Western Province.

Western Province eased past the SA LSEN (42-5), Blue Bulls (31-5) and the Pumas (17-5) in their three pool matches. Gideon van Wyk, Javier Farmer and Tiaan Swanepoel were key players for the team from the Western Cape.

SARUu17Sevens School of Rugby | News - School of RugbyWestern Province will be the firm favourites to successfully defend their title as champions of the annual SARU u17 Sevens tournament. This year's edition of the tournament will be held at the Fanie du Toit field in Potchefstroom. 

Other teams to watch out for is the Golden Lions, Blue Bulls, Free State and the Griffons.

Paarl Boishaai will miss out on "their" World Schools Festival in 2019

WorldSchoolsFestival2019 School of Rugby | News - School of RugbyPaarl Boys’ High were fortunate enough to initiate and host the very first World Schools’ Festival at Brug Street this year. We will , however, miss out on next year’s event in Stellenbosch. 

Our initial contract with the event organizers, Carinat, gave us the option to extend the hosting for another two years, but after lengthy discussions, it was decided rather to move the tournament around among schools, similar to the Craven Week.

Potchefstroom to host action-packed U17 Sevens

NewsGCampoWillemse School of Rugby | News - School of RugbyThe Fanie du Toit Sports Grounds in Potchefstroom will host the top schools sevens players in the country on Friday and Saturday in the SA Rugby U17 Interprovincial Sevens, where a total of 44 action-packed matches will play out.

The 16 participating teams will feature in 24 matches on the opening day, while 20 games will be played on Saturday in an exciting showpiece of junior rugby action.
